Recently, our University has received a number of fellows from all around the world to work at various research positions. The conference aims to bring together the research fellows working at UCT Prague and academic scientists, postdocs and PhD students from UCT and other institutions to discuss the research topics and possible ways of collaboration. The fellows will have the opportunity to present their background and research interests to the academia. The conference will provide an ideal platform for interaction, networking and seeking new collaborations.

- The scientific specialization including multidisciplinary areas of chemistry and materials science that cover the frontiers of nanotechnology, materials chemistry and electrochemistry at National Taipei University of Technology. Most significantly, my research offers alternative solutions to global problems in Energy demands, health management, chemical sensing and analysis. The main research interest was in the field of electrochemical energy storage and conversion such as hydrogen evolution reaction and super capacitors. I am extremely interested on the field of electro-catalysis by developing and investigating electro-catalysts. Specifically, the chemical and electrochemical synthesis of 2-dimensional nanomaterials such as graphene. I am also experienced in preparing one-dimensional nanostructures such as multi walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with abundant functional groups. All these nanomaterials were then used in the development of highly sensitive and selective electrochemical sensing of glucose, dopamine, and uric acid, and drugs. I have acquired substantial experience in operating both electrochemical techniques (cyclic voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, square wave voltammetry, and amperometry), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), rotating disk electrode (RDE) and optical techniques (UV-visible spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy). I am also experienced in conducting Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) for analyzing surface morphology of nanomaterials.

- During my PhD study at Twente University I have designed and assessed novel pyrazine-based extractants for f-block metal separation. Mainly, pyrazine-based water soluble ligands for selective actinide stripping back from organic phase. The newly created synthetic methodology also allowed synthesis of novel phosphine ligands for transition metal catalysis, specifically Ru and Rh – catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenation.
- During my postdoctoral stay at Warsaw University in the Supramolecular Chemistry Lab I systematically explored various means of introducing constitutional dynamics into robust frameworks of MOFs. In parallel I explored methods for post-synthetic MOFs functionalization. As a result we have successfully prepared the missing parent compound of an important family of MOFs – the unsubstituted (Al)MIL-101 – thermodynamically metastable material which is impossible to synthesize by direct methods.

- The aim in our lab is to develop the process, in which the membrane separation is connected with fermentation/bioprocess to continuously separate the product from fermentation broth. In frame of a long standing research in the field of mechanically agitated fermenters design, the necessity rises to combine the fermentation process with a continuous separation of the product. For the future completion of the methodology of industrial fermenters design, it is necessary to broaden this research topic, including membrane separation experimental study.

- My scientific highlights:
- My scientific interest is centred on the use of biotechnology to reduce pollution of the environment, with a particular emphasis on priority hazardous substances in the field of water policy, which include, among others, PCDDs/PCDFs and PCBs.
- I began my scientific career investigating the spatial distribution of the aforementioned toxic compounds in reservoirs located in Central Poland, culminating in the doctoral dissertation. The next outcomes of my research helped to identify the migration paths of priority hazardous substances in river basins and the possibility of reducing their concentrations in the environment.
- From 2008 to 2012, I participated to an aid project of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Ethiopia. Major achievements were a series of publications on the identification of risks arising from the presence of PCDDs/PCDFs and dl-PCBs in the environment and the implementation of advanced but low-cost solutions to improve the quality of the ecosystem and people's lives.
- The obtained knowledge and experience became the basis for further challenges aimed at developing efficient and environmentally-friendly methods for the elimination of xenobiotics based on the use of biotechnology and taking into account range of biological, chemical and physical parameters. On the whole I managed integrating technical solutions and biological processes, including inter alia bio- and phytoremediation processes.

- Ramato is doing an research on the future of sustainable energy. He is working on the Horizon 2020-funded project entitled Novel Material and Process Design for Reverse Electrodyalysis-Water Electrolysis Energy System (MARVEL) which targets on tackling energy challenges of society through the development of advanced materials and technologies for clean energy and hydrogen production using water. The major aim is developing novel materials and processes to advance renewable hydrogen production. The fellow actively participates in a high-quality research and training in the emerging areas of renewable energy research through multidisciplinary investigation approaches and intersectoral mobility. Successful implementation of MARVEL will not only contribute towards a secure and sustainable energy for the society but also lays a strong scientific and technical base for European science and technology, foster the competitiveness and growth of EU economy.
